Our demands
1. Ceasefire & humanitarian aid: We call for consistent adherence to the agreed ceasefire and unhindered access for aid organisations and journalists.
2. Respect for international law: Unconditional support for the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court! The international community must demand that all parties comply with international law. We await the advisory opinion of the ICJ on Israel's obligations towards UN actors and third states, which is due on 22 October.
3. Recognition of Palestine: We call for the recognition of Palestine, the guarantee of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the creation of a Palestinian state. This includes the participation of Palestinian voices in the transitional government, the release of imprisoned Palestinian leaders, an end to violence and the dismantling of settlements in the West Bank. At the same time, Hamas and its ideology must no longer play a role.
4. Human rights: We condemn the attacks on the Global Sumud Flotilla and support demands for better protection of human rights activists.
5. Sanctions: We call for the suspension of the EU Association Agreement with Israel and for targeted sanctions against those responsible for war crimes, terrorism and expulsions.
6. International engagement: We support an international security mission, the training of security forces by the Palestinian Authority, and a European contribution to the reconstruction of Gaza.
7. Arms export ban: Halt all arms deliveries that pose a threat to civilians! This applies in particular to military equipment that can be used in Gaza.
What do the current developments mean for us?
With the ceasefire and the 20-point draft peace and reconstruction agreement adopted in Paris, we currently have hope for peace. We welcome the release of the surviving hostages, the handover of many bodies and the release of many Palestinian prisoners, some of whom were in administrative detention. The situation can change quickly and there have been several violations of the ceasefire.
We will continue to update our assessments.
